Composer-performer Ben Cosgrove is "a sonic plein-air painter...[using] his piano as a paintbrush," according to the Boston Globe. Cosgrove's highly inspirational performances, described as "immediately evocative and fully arresting...brimming with technical mastery and emotional capital," can be experienced while surrounded by Tony Foster's plein air Sacred Places: Watercolour Diaries from the American Southwest Journey at The Foster Museum.
After performing at the museum for a stunning private event in 2024, plans were immediately hatched to bring Cosgrove out west again for public performances. The museum and Cosgrove are thrilled to offer performances on March 28 & 29, 2025, in a setting that enhances and deepens the music's explorations of landscape, place, and environment. Each concert will be unique with only a minor overlapping of performance pieces.
Cosgrove has collaborated with groups ranging from rock bands to research scientists, contributed music to several radio and film projects (including the recent Ken Burns documentary, The American Buffalo), and held residencies and fellowships with institutions including NASA, the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, Harvard University, Middlebury College, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology. His newest record, Bearings, is a collection of improvisation-based music that reflects upon the relationship between movement and place.
