ABOUT AS FRESH AS IT GETS

In an effort to recognize local restaurants, hotels, caterers, and other businesses that purchase and/or serve products from local San Mateo County farmers, fishermen, vintners, and brewers, the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau, San Mateo County Farm Bureau, and the San Mateo County Harbor District joined forces in 2006 to create the San Mateo County: As Fresh As It Gets Awards. The program is now underwritten by the County of San Mateo.

Businesses that go out of their way to use fresh, local products are each awarded a special San Mateo County: As Fresh As It Gets plaque for display, to let customers know they serve the freshest local fare. Qualifying establishments are not only encouraged to designate specific menu items as San Mateo County Fresh but also to mention the award on their menus. Each winning establishment’s chef will earn the title of San Mateo County Fresh Chef. There are three different award levels available, Traditional, Gold, and Platinum, depending on the number, type, and promotion of their San Mateo County Fresh items.

The program’s goals are to get the word out about San Mateo County’s delicious and nutritious fresh products and where to get them, to promote San Mateo County as a world-class destination for culinary tourism, and to support the San Mateo County farmers, fishermen, vintners, and brewers who make it all possible.
