Steve Oku represents the 5th generation farming in California. The company was originally founded in Mountain View, CA in 1902 and has been in Pescadero since 1962. In 2018, Steve Oku was award Farmer of the Year at the 49th annual Mel Mello Farm Day Luncheon held in Half Moon Bay.
Oku’s grandfather came to the United States from Japan around 1890 to work on a farm. Roughly a decade later, he was able to secure his own acre of land and construct a greenhouse on it.
Today, Oku carries that farming tradition forward and is serving as a mentor for future farming generations as well. Oku works with his daughter, son, and nephew at his Pescadero farm.
The Oku Family takes great pride in growing the best lettuce possible. Their greenhouses protect the crops from insects, diseases, and other problems that have caused field lettuce to be recalled. The Oku name means that the crop is nutritious and safe!
