About Woodside

Woodside was originally home to the Ohlone people before Spanish explorers arrived on The San Francisco Peninsula in the 1700s. Eventually, the land became part of a Mexican land grant called Rancho Cañada de Raymundo. In the mid-1800s, Woodside became a hub for the logging industry. Lumberjacks, shingle makers and sawmill men bought supplies at the Woodside Store, which you can still visit to this day. As the logging industry began to decline in the early 20th century, Woodside began to attract many wealthy families looking to build country estates and equestrian ranches. The town was officially incorporated in 1956, and the city of Woodside has worked hard to preserve its beautiful open spaces and redwoods.

Today, Woodside is home to many Silicon Valley CEOs and executives and is considered one of the wealthiest small towns in the United States. Its residents enjoy beautiful open preserves, hiking and endless outdoor activities. Its equestrian heritage is still a large part of the town’s culture and many of its residents own horses. Woodside is also home to many locally-loved dining spots and popular attractions such as Filoli, Wunderlich Park and Huddart Park. The town is also popular among local cyclists with many cycling routes on Old La Honda Road, King's Mountain Road, Cañada Road, Southgate Drive, Skyline Boulevard and Highway 84.
