Belmont, CA, is a small city nestled in the heart of San Mateo County with a rich history. The area was once part of a 1795 Spanish land grant called Rancho de Las Pulgas. The community started to develop in the mid-1800s and was officially named Belmont in 1853, a name which is believed to come from the Italian phrase bel monte, meaning “beautiful mountain.” The city was officially incorporated as a suburb of San Francisco in 1926. Today, Belmont offers a unique balance of small-town charm and close proximity to the urban center of Silicon Valley.
