Caltrain and The San Francisco Peninsula Announce First-Ever Destination Marketing Partnership to Boost Regional Travel Ahead of Major Global Sporting Events
Joint initiative expands transit‑friendly tourism opportunities for a year defined by global sports and high‑impact regional events
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – February 6, 2026 – Caltrain and The San Francisco Peninsula, the region’s travel and tourism board, today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership designed to promote sustainable regional travel, support local tourism and highlight The Peninsula as a premier destination ahead of a wave of high-profile sporting events coming to the region, including Super Bowl LX and the FIFA World Cup™.
This historic collaboration marks Caltrain’s first-ever formal partnership with a destination marketing organization (DMO), signaling a new era of integrated transportation and tourism promotion for San Mateo County and the greater Bay Area. Under the agreement, Caltrain and The San Francisco Peninsula will jointly promote rail-friendly travel options for residents and visitors through coordinated marketing efforts, onboard digital signage, social media campaigns, newsletter features, cross-promotional website content, sweepstakes and on-site activations at Caltrain stations and major local events.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to connecting people with the incredible experiences The San Francisco Peninsula has to offer in an easy, sustainable and enjoyable way,” said Dan Lieberman, Public Information Officer for Caltrain. “With once-in-a-generation global sports events coming to the Bay Area, now is the perfect time to spotlight Caltrain as the stress-free way to explore it all.”
As part of the partnership, The San Francisco Peninsula will feature Caltrain prominently in its visitor communications, partner newsletters and major annual events to proactively support sustainable travel in the region. Caltrain riders can look forward to exclusive promotions, lodging/dining sweepstakes and activation opportunities around signature gatherings such as the San Mateo County Fair, Bayside 101 Festival and the forthcoming Flavors of the Peninsula experience.
“The San Francisco Peninsula is the gateway to the Bay Area’s biggest moments in 2026, and working with Caltrain lets us welcome visitors with the best possible first impression,” said John Hutar, President and CEO at The San Francisco Peninsula. “From world-class sports to scenic attractions and vibrant downtowns, this partnership allows us to connect travelers to everything the region has to offer with convenience and sustainability front-of-mind.”
With increased regional visitation anticipated for Super Bowl LX and FIFA World Cup matches at Levi’s Stadium, the partnership aims to make it easier than ever for fans and visitors to travel car-free between hotels, restaurants, attractions, and world‑class sporting venues.
