Stanford has the most successful intercollegiate athletics program in the country, as signified by its 19 consecutive Learfield Sports Directors’ Cups. No other school has won more than one, and certainly no others can match Stanford’s ongoing record of 37 consecutive years with at least one national team championship. Stanford offers 36 varsity sports — 20 for women, 15 for men and one coed — and 31 club sports. With 800 intercollegiate student-athletes, Stanford has an athletics program as comprehensive as it is successful. In addition, 41 Stanford-affiliated athletes and coaches participated at the 2012 Olympic Games and left London with a combined 16 medals, including 12 gold.
