What is the 'As Fresh As It Gets' Award?
Businesses that commit to using fresh, local products from San Mateo County producers can apply to be awarded a special San Mateo County: As Fresh As It Gets plaque for display in their business. This plaque lets customers know they serve the freshest locally sourced fare. Qualifying establishments are not only encouraged to designate specific menu items as San Mateo County Fresh, but also to mention the award on their menus. Each winning establishment’s chef will earn the title of San Mateo County Fresh Chef.
Does my business qualify?
To qualify, a business must source products from the San Mateo County producers listed on the application form, have been buying locally grown/caught products for at least 1 month, and sign a commitment to continue doing so. After you submit your completed application, the San Mateo County Agriculture Agreement will verify the information. The San Francisco Peninsula will notify you if you qualify for an Award.

What is the 'As Fresh As It Gets' program?
In an effort to recognize local restaurants, hotels, caterers, and other businesses that purchase and/or serve products from local San Mateo County farmers, fishermen, vintners, and brewers, The San Francisco Peninsula, San Mateo County Farm Bureau, and the San Mateo County Agriculture Department joined forces in 2006 to create the San Mateo County: As Fresh As It Gets Awards. The program is now sponsored by the San Mateo County Agriculture Department. The program’s goals are:
- Spread awareness of San Mateo County's delicious and nutritious fresh products and where to purchase them
- Promote San Mateo County as a world-class destination for culinary tourism
- Support the farmers, fishermen, vintners, and brewers who make it all possible
