About Menlo Park

Menlo Park is home to some of the world’s most influential technology companies, including Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), and sits just steps from Stanford University. Visitors and locals enjoy strolling the shops and restaurants along Santa Cruz Avenue, exploring the trails and open space of Bedwell Bayfront Park, and discovering the city’s quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods that reflect its classic Peninsula charm.

Long before it became a center of innovation, the area was home to the native Ohlone people, who lived on the San Francisco Peninsula for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Spanish explorers in the late 18th century. In 1851, Irish immigrants Dennis J. Oliver and D.C. McGlynn established a gatehouse along El Camino Real and named the site “Menlo Park” after their hometown of Menlo. The community grew alongside the railroad and was officially incorporated in 1927. Over the decades, Menlo Park evolved from a small agricultural town into a key player in Silicon Valley’s rise, blending historic character with a legacy of entrepreneurship and innovation that continues today.
